If there’s one company that has our attention lately, that would be OPPO. Ever since they released the OPPO Find 5 last year as the first 1080p display phone, they’ve really made some waves with US consumers. The OPPO Find 5 was available unlocked in the US for around $450, which isn’t bad. Especially for what kind of device it is. We also know that OPPO is looking to release a camera-phone, the N1 which is based on Android, and that will be unveiled on September 23rd at their own event.
Today, the company teased a new plug-in camera lenses for its smartphones. The initial range will use 16 megapixel Sony CMOS sensors with optical image stabilization, and they’ll also have support for NFC, SD cards, and WiFi. Buyers will also be able to choose between the 10X zoom which is pretty thin. Then there’s the 15X zoom which, as you expected, is a bit thicker. OPPO hasn’t yet disclosed the details on these plug-in camera lenses yet, it’s looking like this the next trend for mobile cameras. As Sony has something a bit similar, which we’ll see next week at IFA.
How would you like to be able to pop in your camera lens onto your phone? It could bring better cameras for all, especially if it became universally available. It sounds like a great idea, I just don’t know how practical it would be. As we stated already, OPPO hasn’t released launch details for the device yet. But we’re sure we’ll hear more about it when they announce the N1 smartphone on September 23rd. And as we always do, we’ll be covering that event and check out what our friends over at OPPO have in store for us.
You can see the images over on Sina Weibo, which is the Chinese version of Twitter. Basically. Of course, you’ll need to login, so it might be easier to just check out the image above. The camera lenses look pretty small and could be a really great idea. I’ll be interested to see how it works out.
