New products aren’t impervious to bugs and issues at launch and unfortunately for Google, it seems that the new Nexus 7 is off to a slightly rocky start. Of course, things could be a lot worse and with this being a Nexus device, updates and fixes will be as quick as you like. This time around, there are reports of the new Nexus 7 suffering from Multitouch issues. It’s hard to explain in writing, so just take a look at the YouTube video below from bobafuzz:
According to Android Police this is possibly something to do with the amount of electrical current that is passed through the touchscreen. Making a software update very likely, even more so when users are reporting that the initial update of build “JWR66N” is free of the bug, while the 2nd OTA to build “JSS15J” brings the issue with it. If you’re experiencing the issue yourself, don’t hesitate to reach out in the comments below.
As for when a fix is coming, we’re not quite sure but the Android team is working on it. As they’ve confirmed over at their product forums with the following statement:
Hi everyone,
Thanks again for letting us know how your touchscreen’s been doing after trying safe mode or resetting your tablet — it’s helpful to know that hasn’t resolved this issue for you.
The Android team is aware of this issue and investigating. I’ll post an update when there’s new information to share.
We wouldn’t be surprised if enterprising developers have already been working on their own fix for this issue with custom kernels and the like. Regardless, a fix is on its way and we’re sure that Google won’t be dragging their feet with this one. This just goes to show how important it can be to have control of devices outside of carriers and such, a fix for this issue can be pushed out in a timely fashion.
