With LG officially announcing its G2 handset today, we got word that the device was indeed headed to all 4 major US carriers. This was a pretty big deal as LG’s previous flagship device was not so lucky, leaving some consumers high and dry. Verizon was the first of these carriers to come out and make things official by confirming the devices availability.
Big Red took to Twitter earlier today to post press shots of its version of the device. While the device looks exactly as expected hardware-wise, we were greeted with plenty of logos, something we also expected. While Verizon’s take on the device isn’t nearly as bad as what they did with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, it is still pretty cringe-worthy.
The device features a Verizon logo above the top-right corner of the screen and directly in the center of the device on the back, right below the power and volume keys. In addition to having it present in the notification bar, the back part of the device also features the infamous “4G LTE” logo that Verizon throws on their devices.
While this certainly isn’t surprising, it is a little odd that some devices are able to keep Verizon’s branding off of the front of the device while other are not. Perhaps the most notable device was Verizon’s take the the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. In this case, the absence of a logo was undoubtedly due to the fact that it was a Nexus device and that Google refused to budge. However, the recently announced Moto X is also free of any Verizon branding. This is likely due to the fact that Motorola’s other Verizon phones, the DROIDs, also do not have branding on the front. We all know that Verizon and Motorola are very fond of each other so it is possible that Big Red is letting the company slide past Verizon’s eager logo department.
Verizon has yet to state a specific date as to when the device will be launched other than “coming soon”. However, Verizon’s recent delay of the popular HTC One doesn’t exactly make us enthusiastic.
