Apple Reportedly Paying Electronic Arts to Delay Plants vs Zombies 2 for Android – Is Apple Scared?

Is Apple paying Electronic Arts to delay Plants vs Zombies 2 for Android? Well, with the exception of China, Plants vs Zombies 2 has only launched on iOS so far. The reason? Apple is reportedly paying Electronic Arts to delay it for Android. Now we don’t know if this is true. In fact, Apple has told Giant Bomb, that they are not paying for Plants vs Zombies 2 to be delayed.

These details were revealed during an internal town hall meeting held earlier today for Electronic Arts. “Apple gave us a truckload of money to delay the Android version, says Frank Gibeau, the head of EA Labels. This was confirmed by several sources who watched the presentation today.

Currently, it’s unclear what a “truckload of money” means, and since there’s no other information known on this agreement between the two companies. A PopCap representative said “We can’t comment on internal meetings.”

So what does this mean? It basically means that Apple is scared of Android. We already know that nearly 80% of the world uses Android devices. And if Apple can keep big game makers like Electronic Arts from launching their games on Android at the same time as the iPhone, it gives them a leg up. This is almost the equivalent of AT&T getting the exclusive on the HTC One Mini or Galaxy Mega 6.3. It doesn’t make sense to many of us, but it does give us some more ammo to bash Apple with.

Plants vs Zombies 2 has already been a huge success for both PopCap and Electronic Arts. It’s been downloaded over 25 million times already. And that’s just on iOS, never mind Android. The game has been a pretty good sequel, but  they have been scrutinized for switching to free-to-play. Guess you can’t please everyone.
