Droid MAXX, Ultra, Mini and Moto X All Rooted with MotoRoot

Motorola has really been in the news lately, first with their new Motorola Droid MAXX and Ultra, and then the Droid Mini, and finally, their most anticipated, Moto X. The Moto X launch was exciting because you could actually customize the device to fit your personally and likes with color selection, trim options, you can have the phone engraved, and you will even be able to get a real wooden back on the phone. To accomplish these feats, you could go to Motorola’s website and use MotoMaker. Still having trouble, go to Facebook and use MotoMatch. Need even more customization – try to grab the travel MakewithMoto Group and really do some personalization.

To help you customize the inside of your Moto X, as well as the entire Droid family, Droid MAXX, Droid Ultra, and Droid Mini, thanks to our friends at XDA Developers, we now have MotoRoot. Justin Case created the one-click app, MotoRoot, that allows the Motorola devices to be rooted with little effort.  He even included an option to “unroot” your device by only one click.

The video below gives you step-by-step instructions and you can take a look at the screens that you should see as you go through the rooting process.

Instructions:

  • Download the rooting app for the Moto X here, or for the Maxx/Mini/Ultra here. Be careful to get the right variant for your phone.
  • Install it by typing:
  • ‘adb install -r motoroot.apk’ (Note: filenames vary by device).
  • Run the app on your device.
  • Tap on the ‘Setup’ button and wait for the phone to reboot.
  • Install SuperSU from the Play Store.
  • Then Enjoy!

IMPORTANT:

An update was issued at XDA:

Quote:

This update is important, it fixes some missing files in xbin and includes a fixed SuperSu. Consider it a must.

adb install -r MotoRoot1.1-Droid.apk
adb install -r SuperSU-v1.66-xbin.apk

Go into the app, click unroot, let it reboot, then re-root.
