Motorola’s Moto X has finally hit shelves and their new Fort Worth factory is running flat-out to get those customized Moto X devices out there. We all know that smartphones are built in environments that are pristine, filled with machines and monitor panels but, what about getting a look inside of them? Well, that’s traditionally saved for cheesy photo-ops and visits to China, a la Apple’s Tim Cook. However, Google and Motorola have taken a different approach.
Using Google’s Street View, you can now take a look around the Flextronics plant in Fort Worth, Texas. Thankfully, Google didn’t choose a day when things were quiet, either. You can see workers going about their daily business and getting all those different colored phones ready to the good folk of the United States. Street View has become a staple of Google Maps and it’s pretty cool to be able to use it like this.
While the “Made in the U.S.A” tagline is of course marketing gold for Motorola, the factory you see above is perhaps the only way that Motorola could have achieved the great amount of customization that the Moto Maker offers potential customers. Sure, this sort of thing can be done in China, or elsewhere around the globe but, shipping devices out in just 4 days is no mean feat. Having your manufacturing so close to home certainly goes a long way to ticking all the right boxes. For most of us though, seeing a flagship product from an American company being made in their home country is pretty impressive.
Assembling somewhere in the region of 100,000 phones a week, this facility in Texas is a big bet for Motorola and Google and so far, it seems like it’s paying off. What do you guys think?
