LG has officially announced their highly rumored and strategically teased LG, G Pad 8.3, Pre-IFA. Boasting the first full HD screen on an 8-inch tablet (8.3 to be exact), with a resolution of 1920×1200 which works out of 273 PPI. This announcement, as I said above, comes Pre-IFA and is in no doubt intended to take the spotlight away from some of the devices to be featured there before they even get a chance to stand in it. A bold move, its effectiveness we’ll just have to wait and see. An announcement means nothing without specs to back it up, so without further adieu, the G Pad 8.3 will feature:
- The first Full HD Screen in its Class at 1920×1200
- A pixel Density of 273 PPI
- A 1.7GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor
- 2GB of LPDDR2 RAM
- 5 MP rear facing camera / 1.3 MP front facing camera
- 16GB internal storage
- Android 4.2.2
- An amazingly MASSIVE 4,600 mAh
The specs listed above are pretty substantial as far as tablets go, especially when compared to the few in the 8-inch class. The giant 4,600 mAh battery, to me is the most significant, no matter a tablets specs, if the battery doesn’t last, there is no point in having it. Also LG has packed in some interesting features including, QPair. Slide Aside, QSlide, and KnockON. Slide Aside, enables seamless multitasking by simply “sliding” currently open apps off to the side using a three-finger swipe. QSlide allows a user to control up to three different apps in one window with no interruption, which is very convenient on a large screen. KnockON is an interesting feature that allows a user to turn the device on and off by simply tapping the display twice. QPair is an interesting app, that allows every call and message received on a smart phone appear on the G Pad for a true convergence experience. Users can then send simple replies through the LG G Pad 8.3. QPair also allows the G Pad to easily connect to other manufacturers’ smartphone and tablet. Personally I am excited for this tablet, these new features actually sound very useful and convenient for use on a tablet. Also its size seems about right to fit in between the 7-inch tablets which I find too small for most uses, and the 10-inch which I normally find too large for practical application. I cannot wait to see this tablet in all its glory when its presented at this years IFA, it has been rumored to be released immediately following the IFA event.
