According to some pictures released by SamMobile, it looks like both models of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 series, the Tab 8.0 and the Tab 10.1 will be receiving a much needed Multi-User feature, protecting your individual profile from other tablet users. Despite coming out of the box with Android 4.2.2 and having the Multi-User capability available, Samsung, for whatever reason, chose not to include this important feature.
The following screenshots seem to bear witness that the Multi-User feature will be made available through a software update. It’s not sure if the software update will include any other features, but if you share a tablet at your house with your spouse or kids, the Multi-User feature alone is worth an update. Privacy, even among family members, is a growing concern with the capability to pick up a shared tablet and the information can be viewed by all members, but if Samsung follows through with this software update, those fears will be put to rest.
On these screenshots, on the bottom left you can see the Users’ names listed – on the right you can see the Add User screen. It states:
After you create a new user, that person needs to go through a setup process.
Any user can accept updated app permissions on behalf of all other users.
It would appear as if there is no allowance for a Super User or Administrative User that controls updates or permissions.
These screens clearly show an established User and the option to set up additional Users
The Samsung Galaxy Tab line has some fairly good specifications, although screen resolution is rather low. The Tab 3 8.0 includes:
- 8-inch LCD Display at 1280 x 800
- 1.5 Ghz Dual-Core CPU
- 1.5GB of RAM
- 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1.3-megapixel camera round front
- 16GB of storage, with microSD support
- Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
- 4,450 mAh Battery
The Galaxy Tab 10.1, is for someone that wants a larger screen, as the specs remain about the same otherwise:
- 10.1-inch LCD Display at 1280 x 800
- 1.6Ghz Dual-Core Intel CPU
- 1GB of RAM
- 3.2-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1.3-megapixel camera round front
- 8 or 16GB of storage, with microSD support
- Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
- 6,800 mAh Battery
Let us know if you own one of these tablets and are looking forward to receiving this update. Is Multi-User privacy important to you?
