Yesterday, we talked about who might manufacturer the next Nexus, the Nexus 5. Today, we’ll be talking about the design of the device, that’s due to be unveiled next month. We’ve already seen some renders of what the Nexus 5 might look like. But if we look back at the previous Nexus devices, the Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 all look fairly similar. Sure there are a few changes, but not a ton of them. The renders we’ve seen so far point to a design like the Nexus 7, but of course smaller. Now we don’t know exactly what the Nexus 5 is going to look like, but the trend this year is making it look like last years model with a bigger screen in the same size body and thinner. Well that’s mostly just Samsung’s model this year for their flagships.
We’ve seen a render of the Nexus 5 already, that was made from the KitKat introduction video last week. Now we don’t know if that Nexus device is a prototype or final version of the device. But what I’d expect from the Nexus 5 is about the same size as the Nexus 4, just a bit less bezel. I’d also expect the Nexus 5 to keep with the software keys, as that’s Google’s design philosophy at least for now. In addition to keeping the Nexus logo on the back that we all know and love. However, it might turn to landscape, similar to how the Nexus 7’s logo is now.
There’s a lot we don’t know about the Nexus 5 right now. And the render above shows us exactly what we do know, or what we think we know.
October is quickly approaching, which is when we believe we’ll see the new Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 – KitKat. Although it will be a bit strange since we won’t have Hugo Barra showing off the new hardware and software to use, as he’s done at numerous software and hardware launches over the past few years. Maybe Matias will make a return to the spotlight with his iOS 7 shirt? How would you change the design of the Nexus 4, for this year’s Nexus 5? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
