Back in late July when Verizon and Motorola announced the 2013 lineup of DROIDs, the DROID Ultra, DROID Mini and DROID Maxx, one of the key features that was exclusive to the DROID lineup was the DROID Zap app. Basically it allows you to send pictures to people around you. Instead of using Bluetooth or NFC. It actually uploads the picture to the cloud and then anyone with the DROID Zap app installed could look for a picture and download it to their device. Of course, you could add a generated pin to the picture for the user to enter to download the picture. I actually did a video about DROID Zap that you can check out.
Today, Motorola has updated the DROID Zap app so it will work with older Motorola DROID devices that are running Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich or higher. So if you have a DROID Razr HD, or DROID Razr, or DROID Bionic, or any Motorola device on Verizon sporting ICS or higher, you can now send pictures via DROID Zap. Which is very nice to see. The DROID Zap isn’t the simplest app to use to transfer pictures to other devices, but it does work and it works pretty well. It’s a bit strange to upload pictures since you can’t just select DROID Zap from the share menu. You actually have to take two fingers and swipe up on the picture to start uploading it.
This is a pretty big deal. Especially since Motorola was able to add this functionality to older devices without having to send out an OTA. Since we all know how long that OTA would take to arrive, especially for older Motorola DROID phones. You can download the DROID Zap app from the Play Store. It should be available for all devices, but only Motorola DROID devices running Android 4.0 or higher will be able to upload pictures, all other devices can receive pictures.
