Motorola to DROID Owners: "Verizon users… You know that Software Update is Coming Soon"

I often check in on the DROID Ultra, Mini and Maxx community over on Google+. And I’ve seen a lot of people asking when they would be getting the camera update that the Moto X has received on AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile (Verizon’s should be rolling out this week). Considering the software and hardware is relatively the same, the update shouldn’t take that long to roll out, or at least you’d think so. Well Motorola has finally broken the silence about the 2013 DROID Family. Motorola Mobility’s Vice President of Product Management, Punit Soni had this to say:

Verizon users… You know that SW update is coming soon…

The only thing I’m hoping for is that “soon” to Motorola/Verizon is the same as what I think it means. But we all know how quick Verizon is to roll out updates. Although to both Motorola and Verizon’s credit, they have both been getting much faster a rolling out updates. Which is a great thing.

The update isn’t going to be too huge, at least I don’t think it will be. It should basically be the same changelog as the Moto X’s updates. Mostly having to do with the camera. Not that the camera is unusable on the DROID Ultra, Maxx or Mini, but it’s just not the best device to have for taking pictures. I’d rather have the LG G2 or Note 3 for pictures. Although the update will help it out, it’s still no match for the competition that LG and Samsung has released in the past couple of months.

A lot of Motorola’s apps are also in the Play Store now, so that they can update them directly through Google Play instead of doing a OTA and getting it certified by all the carriers. Which is exactly what Google has been doing in the past year or so and seems like a great idea in my opinion.
