We can finally welcome the number one network into the 21st century with their new CBS app for streaming their television content to our smartphones and tablets – it is available now for downloading from the Play Store. The new streaming app includes, schedules, clips, full episodes, cast information, and even allows you to setup “My CBS.” It is a shame that it took CBS so long to come out with their Android App, but it should be a welcomed edition to your app collection if you are hooked on the great shows on CBS.
This is what the CBS Schedule looks like in the smartphone and tablet applications. In the smartphone version you simply swipe to see what shows are available at later times on the days that are showing and scroll up to see other days – scrolling is smooth and effortless. If you select a show, this is what you see:
It allows you to perform a couple Social Media functions, such as sharing this episode on Facebook, Tweet about it, or email the link to another person. It also allows you to save it directly on your calendar as a reminder, or add it to your own special list on shows. Under the option to “View Show Info,” you can look at video clips, still photos, or view the cast and then mored detailed information about each member.
From these screens you can press on a full episode of a show, and you may see a quick commercial while it downloads, and of course throughout the episode – hey, somebody has to pay for our free access. I was hooked to Wi-Fi, and I had moments of buffering that were quite annoying. I could only receive Verizon 3G this cloudy day, and had the same difficulties – it would be interesting to see how 4G LTE would handle it.
The screens that great you when you first bring up the app allows you to scroll across the top, as well as jumps from show-to-show giving you an idea of exactly what full-episodes are available for viewing and you can also access them from here.
This is really a great area where you create and personalize your CBS app with “My Shows,” so you can always see, at a glance, when your favorite episodes are available and what days of the week they are on.
Hitting the menu on the screen (three lines, upper left) brings you to this main control screen where you can jump to any area of the application that you need to access. Drop by the Play Store by clicking on the button and download this free CBS app where you can enjoy:
