Two Different Battery Packs Possibly Heading for the Nexus 5 Leak Out

When rumors that the Nexus 5 would come in two different flavors hit the Internet, we weren’t surprised that some folks out there seemed to think it was a little far-fetched. Hey, we still think this is an odd move for Google but, it also makes a lot of sense when you think about it. In case you haven’t heard, one of the latest and more bizarre Nexus 5 rumors is that the Nexus 5 will ship for $299 and $399, with each model coming with 16GB of storage and a 2,300 mAh or 32GB and a 3,000 mAh battery, respectively. This got Nexus lovers a little weak in the knees as battery life is one of the things the Nexus devices have always struggled with.

Thanks to a certain US Government Shutdown, the FCC has closed its doors but, that hasn’t stopped information from leaking out some way or another. As PhoneArena have discovered, two battery backs have surfaced that could possibly be headed to the Nexus 5. One of them, the BL-T9 has a capacity of 2,300 mAh otherwise known as the battery that was featured in the leaked service manual. Meanwhile, a higher capacity, BL-T7 has also surfaced, featuring 3,000 mAh capacity. This is apparently one of LG’s “Stepped Batteries” which is used in the G2 to get that large battery.

Now, this is still very much up in the air but, there’s a possibility that the BL-T7 is the battery to give the more expensive Nexus it’s 3,000 mAh capacity. $100 for 16GB of extra storage seems steep for a Nexus but, add in the extra cost it would take LG to manufacture these more advanced batteries and you would probably come somewhere close to the extra $100.

Of course, this is more than likely going to be dismissed as just another crazy rumor, which it could well be but, we can all hope, right? Time and time again, Google’s Earning Calls end on complaints about battery life. We’re inclined to believe that if Google can offer their customers better battery life in their own flagship device, that they’d be more than happy to do so.
