Just last year in this same report, Sprint was second behind Verizon Wireless, and this year they’ve fallen to dead last in Consumer Reports’ annual wireless service ratings. Sprint has said that things are likely to get worse before they get better. Which we all kind of expect. But we’ve also been hearing that for what seems like years now. Consumer Reports’ does an annual wireless service ranking, which was announced today. “While it trailed only Verizon in overall customer satisfaction…Sprint received dismal marks this year for value, voice, text, and 4G reliability.” Since I’m one of those that lives in an area where Sprint is nearly useless, I’m not surprised. Now I do know that Sprint works great in some areas, but it seems like it doesn’t work in more areas than it works in.
Verizon topped the list again this year, receiving high marks for data service, and its customer support. Which I find kind of weird, since I always hear complaints about their customer support. AT&T and T-Mobile did outperform Sprint, their performance wasn’t really all that great. While AT&T did receive the highest rating for the reliability of it’s 4G network.
So Sprint’s last for customer service and their network. That’s not really a surprise, although I’ve always gotten great customer service with Sprint over the years. Sprint’s third-quarter earnings call was where Sprint’s CEO acknowledged all the work that’s under way. Which includes tearing down the old Nextel network, and building out their Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. Along with it’s merger with Softbank and takeover of Clearwire. Right now Sprint has a lot of things going on, on their network. But it’s hard to see any real changes right now, but as someone that always roots for the underdog, I’d love to see Sprint get a much better network and be able to compete with Verizon and AT&T very soon. Especially since T-Mobile and Sprint are the only ones with unlimited data still.
