In the early hours of Black Friday, Verizon has released the Motorola DROID ULTRA and the Motorola DROID Mini in white color variations on its website. Unfortunately, there are no price drops for either of the devices. The Motorola DROID ULTRA is currently priced at $99.99 on contract, whereas the Motorola DROID Mini is priced at $49.99 on contract.
As far as specifications are concerned, the Motorola DROID ULTRA and the Motorola DROID Mini are similar in all respects, with the exception of screen size and battery life. The DROID ULTRA sports a 5.0 inch 720p HD display and a 2130 mAh battery, whereas the Motorola DROID Mini is fitted with a 4.3 inch 720p HD display and a slightly smaller 2000 mAh battery. The rest of the features shared by the phones include Motorola’s X8 Mobile Computing System, which comprises of a 1.7 GHz dual-core CPU, a 400 MHz quad-core graphics processing units (GPU) as well as a natural language processor and contextual computing processor.
Both the devices also have an ample 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a 10 megapixel (MP) primary camera as well as a 2 MP secondary video call camera. Both these phones also support near field communications or NFC which enables wireless file transfers to other NFC-enabled devices, merely by tapping both the devices together. The usual WiFi, GPS, proximity sensors are also present.
Software-wise both the devices ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, which should be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat – the latest Android iteration from Google. These devices also support “OK Google” hot-word detection, which was initially unveiled in the Motorola Moto X. “OK Google” initiates voice based search on these devices through Google’s innovative Google Now.
