When it comes to Android coverage, there is never any shortage of leaks. Today isn’t much different, as the first images of the Idol X+ from TCL – more commonly recognized around the world by the company’s Alcatel brand – have leaked out, courtesy of the folks atGSMinsider. The images are relatively nondescript, but they do give a good feeling of how thin the handset will be. We can also pull a few important details from the images thanks to the branding on the back of the phone.
Firstly, we can plainly see MediaTek branding positioned below the camera lens on the rear cover of the phone. The TCL Idol X+ is said to be packing an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor, offering an improvement over its predecessor, the Alcatel One Touch Idol X (pictured above). The original Idol X came with a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.5GHz, and while we’re unsure of the octa-core’s clock speed, it seems safe to assume it’ll have more to offer than the CPU in the One Touch Idol X.
That distinction between the CPUs is important, because it doesn’t seem like much else is changing in the transition to the Idol X+. The TCL Idol X+ will feature a 13MP rear-facing shooter, 2GB of RAM, and a 5-inch 1080p screen, all just the same as the original Idol X. Internal storage is jumping for 8GB to 16GB in the Idol X+, but aside from that and the CPU, it looks like a lot will stay the same. The back of the device clearly shows TCL branding too, so at the moment, it’s unclear if this phone will be given the Alcatel name in regions outside of China.
While there’s still a lot left to discover about the TCL Idol X+, these images do give a fair amount away. Overall, the phone looks pretty great, though like the internals, the aesthetics seem to be largely unchanged from the One Touch Idol X. While we may not see this device come to the United States, hoping for a release in Europe and other regions inside Asia probably isn’t going overboard.
