The Nexus 5 is Google’s 2013 Flagship, and it ships with a lot of the latest and greatest in the industry. It’s Snapdragon 800 processor and 1080p display are top-of-the-class hardware, and of course Android 4.4 “Kit-Kat” and the Google Experience Launcher keep things going on the software side of things. It’s definitely a fantastic phone, and offers users a plethora of great features, but one thing that reviewers have concluded about the phone is that its camera – while not necessarily bad – isn’t very good either. In comparison to the 13 mega-pixel shooters on the Galaxy Note 3, LG G2, and even Galaxy S4, the Nexus 5’s camera tends to be under-saturated and has trouble catching good detail in photos. While optical image stabilization has definitely helped out in certain situations like video and low-light shots, generally speaking, the camera on this phone is just not up to snuff.
Google doesn’t seem to think so though.
As stated by Ausdroid’s report, Google just released three new TV advertisements on its official Nexus Youtube Channel – none of them more than a minute in length – which throw spotlights on three of the Nexus 5’s camera features: Auto-Awesome, HDR+ and Photosphere. The thing is, all of these features are available on other phones. Google+’s Photo App is responsible for Auto-Awesome, and HDR and Photosphere is something that’s pretty common on many other Android devices. Regardless of that, these short clever clips demonstrates Google’s most sincere efforts in marketing the phone for it’s Camera.
While the efforts are valiant, one has to wonder why they’re pushing it so much over all of the other fantastic things the Nexus 5 offers consumers, when they are aware that something is wrong and have yet to offer a solution. There are third party solutions available to consumers that are displeased with their Camera, but frankly, most customers want a camera that works great right out of the box. The Galaxy S4, Note 3, and even iPhone 5s provides that sort of instant pleasure, and I hope Google manages to get there ASAP.
Nevertheless, the ads are posted below — my favorite one is the Auto-Awesome one with Grandma dancing; what about you?
