HTC Rolling Out Android 4.4 – KitKat and Sense 5.5 to the Developer Edition HTC One In the US

Following the Moto X, Nexus family, and the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 and HTC One. HTC is now pushing out the KitKat update for the developer edition of the HTC One. So those in the US that did indeed purchase the developer edition of the HTC One, you should be seeing the update very shortly. The OTA brings Sense 5.5 along with Android 4.4 along for the ride. We took a loo at Sense 5.5 in the HTC One Max review a couple of weeks ago, and it’s a pretty nice update from Sense 5, but nothing too major.

The update should feature pretty much everything that comes in KitKat except for one thing, and that’s the launcher found on the Nexus 5. You know the Google Experience Launcher that’s not even on other Nexus devices. Unfortunately it seems like Google is keeping that on the Nexus 5 for now. It seems like Google is looking to see how everyone likes the launcher before pushing it to other devices or even including it in AOSP. But I’m sure we’ll see it on the Play Store rather soon.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m definitely liking seeing all of these KitKat updates rolling out so quickly. Hopefully we should see the HTC One carrier variants seeing the update within the next month or so once they go through the certification process. We’ll be sure to keep a look out on the other updates, and see how well KitKat works with Sense 5.5. Hopefully we’ll see a nice battery life increase here.

So how many of you out there purchased the HTC One developer edition? Have you started mashing that update button yet. Which can be done by going into Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Check for Updates. Let us know in the comments below if you’ve gotten the update.
