Here’s some good news to start your weekend off. It appears that the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the HTC One Google Play Edition is now in Google’s hands. This afternoon, @HTCUSA on Twitter posted:
Good news, we’ve delivered KitKat code to Google for HTC One GPE. Timing of push via PlayStore to be determined by Google.
So I’m guessing Google is going to certify it and then push it out to the HTC One Google Play Edition devices out there. And it’s right on time. When KitKat was announced on October 31st, HTC America President Jason Mackenzie stated that the HTC One Google Play Edition devices would get the update within 15 days and the HTC One would get it within 90 days. Well today is November 15th, about 15 days after that announcement was made. So naturally HTC One Google Play Edition owners are looking for their KitKat update. Well it’s not yet available, but it should be coming very soon, since HTC has already sent the code to Google, and I don’t expect them to take a while certifying it or whatever they have to do to push it out.
We should be seeing the update rolling out in a couple of days, but that is just speculation so take it as that. I’d love to see it start rolling out over the weekend. I’m sure a bunch of HTC One users would love to see that happen. So now this means that HTC can put all their time into getting KitKat ready for the HTC One, One Mini, One Max and whatever older phones they plan on putting KitKat on. I’d like to see them update their 2012 phones like the One X, EVO 4G LTE and the DROID DNA. But I have a feeling only the DROID DNA will see the update, unfortunately.
How many of you out there have a HTC One Google Play Edition laying around? Are you anxiously awaiting the OTA from Google and HTC?
