Huawei has slowly and methodically crept into the number three seller of smartphones – Samsung is the undisputed world champion, followed a distant Apple, Huawei, Lenovo, and LG – and shows no signs on giving up its number three spot. To do this they are going to have to make a high quality device, a cheap device, or both – one for the U.S. market and one for the emerging markets of China where the sales potentials are almost unlimited given their population. The new Huawei Ascend Mate 2 pictures were leaked for our enjoyment and are shown below:
When the first Huawei Ascend Mate arrived, the 6.1-inch display almost seemed gargantuan, but in today’s market of a 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3, 5.9-inch HTC One Max, or the 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega 6.3 – all of a sudden the 6.1-inch display seems about right. The follow up is the Ascend Mate 2 with the same size display, but, according to the Huawei News site, it should be bumped up from a disappointing 720p to a Full HD 1080p display. The rest of the specs look like a quad-core processor running at 1.6GHz and most likely a HiSilicon Kirin 910 with a Mali-450 graphics core. Other leaked information is showing a respectable 2GB of RAM, 16GB of Internal Storage and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Earlier leaks showed a very slim bezel, although the pictures were later taken down, but we have them in an earlier article that you can see HERE. The original Ascend Mate just recently arrived for sale in Canada, and its successor will most like be announced at CES 2014 in January, and it is possible they may distribute it in the U.S. It would be a big coup if Huawei could gain a foothold in the U.S. smartphone market, as their name is barely known outside the tech circles.
Let us know in the comments or on Google+ what you think of the new Huawei Ascend Mate 2, and if you would be interested in their smartphone line up. They are a huge corporation in China and have the resources to build and distribute quality smartphones – hopefully they will come out with some higher spec devices for the U.S.
