The competition for your dollar can obviously be very cutthroat, and today, Microsoft is showing that it isn’t willing to pull any punches. In the competition for dominance of the tablet market, Microsoft has released a new Surface ad that puts the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the crosshairs. This comes on the heels of a similar ad that pitted the Surface against the Apple iPad, so it’s clear that no one is safe from Microsoft’s criticism.
So, what specifically about the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is Microsoft targeting in this ad? USB ports, or at least the Galaxy Tab’s lack thereof. Microsoft points out that the Surface comes equipped with a full-size USB port, meaning you can charge the tablet while using the USB port for other things, whether that’s charging another device or transferring files from a USB stick. On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 only features a micro USB port, which limits your options when you need to charge the tablet.
The tablet market is dominated by a few key players – namely Apple and Samsung – so it’s easy to see why Microsoft is targeting both companies in its latest series of Surface ads. While Windows 8 left many consumers disappointed, there’s something to be said about the operating system on a touchscreen device. It seems Microsoft wants to leverage that to make the Surface a success, though the company does have its work cut out for it.
After all, Apple has basically become synonymous with tablets thanks to its iPad brand, and Samsung has been cornering the Android tablet market through its Galaxy Tab line. It’s going to take a lot to dethrone either of those companies, but this ad shows us that Microsoft is at least willing to try. Surface is still a largely unproven line, though, so Microsoft certainly needs to impress. What do you think?
