Motorola has really stepped up their game with the Moto X this week, and at this point we can pretty much officially sanction it as Moto X love week. All week long Motorola has been raining goodies down on us, starting with opening Moto Maker for all major national carriers and dropping the price at the same time. It’s currently $99 on contract for AT&T and Sprint, $49 for a limited time on Verizon, and $499 contract-free on T-Mobile. Now Republic Wireless is joining the fray by offering the Moto X for a smoking hot $299 off contract. Yes you read that right, a 16GB Moto X offered in either the standard black or white colors for $50 cheaper than you can buy a 16GB Nexus 5. There are plenty of reasons to want the Moto X over the Nexus 5 too, and it starts with Republic Wireless hybrid network that allows you to connect to any WiFi network and use it like you would a cell network. This inherently saves battery life and offers better coverage than cell towers would be able to since you can effectively have WiFi everywhere. T-Mobile users have been enjoying WiFi calling for years now, and I can attest to how awesome it is in areas where coverage isn’t so hot. Republic Wireless’ Moto X is able to use their CDMA network as a backup too, so while it’s not the fastest thing in the world being a 3G network, you’ll be able to stream music and such just fine.
In the box you’ll get the same 720p 4.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with Active Display technology, the same Touchless Control suite of software, and the same awesome updates straight from Motorola. These moves come just as we’re hearing the sales for the Moto X aren’t exactly stellar, but now that Motorola is opening up the gates to not only more companies, but with better prices as well, we expect this to be a pretty hot item this holiday season. In case you missed our review of the Moto X you can check it out right here and find out if it’s the right phone for you. If you’re already a Republic Wireless customer or were looking to join them and save some serious cash on their insanely cheap plans, this phone is probably the best they offer, and with a considerably lower price than with any other carrier.
