For those of you that wanted to get involved with Motorola’s incredibly ambitious customization effort that is MotoMaker, you had to be on AT&T for a long time to take advantage. However, that’s been fixed and now, you can design a Moto X all of your own no matter what carrier you’re on. Well, as long as it’s one of the major four carriers, that is. Sure, that’s not everyone out there, it misses out US Cellular for instance but, a much larger group of users can now take advantage of what is arguably the biggest feature of the Moto X. This might come as good news for those that were holding out on a Verizon Nexus 5, sure the Moto X is no Nexus but, with the MotoMaker you can make a device all of your own and still end up with fairly stock Android.
Both 16GB and 32GB versions are now available on all carriers and run for $99 or $149 with a new-contract. T-Mobile users are left with just the option to buy the device outright, at $499, or $549 for the 32GB model. That’s not cheap but, the Moto X is a pretty great phone, as we discovered in our review earlier on in the year. As well as this, custom inscriptions have now returned, allowing you to personalize your dream phone even further.
The MotoMaker site allows you to design whatever phone you want, more or less. You can only choose from a white or black front panel but, around the rear is where things get crazy. There’s a myriad of different colors available and you can even mix and match different colors of camera ring surrounds, buttons and more. It sounds pretty trivial at first but, being able to call your smartphones truly your own is certainly much better than carrying around the exact same phone as everyone else.
All phones ship for free with an estimated delivery time of 4 days but, don’t be surprised if there’s a slight delay as we’re sure that a whole bunch of new customers will be hitting up the site right about now.
