Motorola Adds DROID Razr HD, DROID Razr Maxx HD and DROID Razr M to the KitKat Update List

Motorola has been getting quite a bit of publicity this week. Well really just today. Earlier today, Motorola announced that the Moto X on Verizon would be the first non-Nexus device to get Android 4.4 KitKat. And surprisingly, it’s rolling out as we speak. Many of us couldn’t believe our eyes. Not only is a Verizon device first to get Android 4.4, but it’s only 3 weeks after KitKat was announced. In fact, the Nexus 4 OTA hasn’t even started and neither has the Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play Editions.

We already knew that the DROID Ultra, Maxx and Mini that went on sale this summer would be getting the update to Android 4.4 – KitKat. But now, Motorola has announced that the DROID Razr HD, Razr Maxx HD, and Razr M which were all released last year, would also be getting the Android 4.4 update. Now the question is when? We really don’t know, but I’d say it’s after all the Moto X variants get the update and after this year’s DROID lineup gets updated as well. That’s just how it goes most of the time. I’d say the earliest would be Q1 2014. But that is just speculation, so treat it as such.

You really have to give it up to Motorola for stepping up with their updates since Google purchased them. They’ve gotten much faster with updates. And I’m not just referring to the Moto X update earlier today. But also the Android 4.2 update late last year for the DROID Razr HD and Maxx HD. They were pushed out pretty quickly, especially for a Motorola device. It’s looking like Motorola is really starting to turn around, which is exactly what I was hoping for. As they are one of those OEMs that’s been around forever. And I’d love to see the return to the top, or at least a strong competitor to Samsung.

How many of you own the DROID Razr HD, DROID Razr Maxx HD or the DROID Razr M?
