Motorola Assist Arrives on Google Play, Brings Helpful Auto Reply Feature With It

Motorola’s Moto X is the talk of the town at the moment, and for good reason. It’s a solid handset all around and comes packing some pretty nifty features. One such feature is Motorola Assist, designed around three important things: keeping people safe on the road, keeping them safe from interrupting meetings with a poorly timed phone call, and keeping them asleep when they hit the sack at the end of the day. Is it any surprise that assist is so popular with Motorola users?

Motorola’s Mark Rose has announced on his Google Plus page that Assist has now come to the Google Play Store. In his post, he outlines an exciting new feature: auto reply. Motorola Assist is already helpful in that it can tell when you’re driving, decline incoming calls, and read your new text messages to you. With auto reply, Assist takes things one step further and sends your caller (or texter, as the case may be) a message that says you’re currently driving and can’t answer. Along with the fact that you can tell the app to read off your new texts, you Motorola users now have no reason to ever take your eyes off the road to read a text message.

The same is true for when you’re in those important meetings. Now not only do you save yourself the embarrassment of having your phone go off during meetings, but you can set up Motorola Assist to automatically message the person who’s calling, provided they’re on your Favorites list. Rose also mentions that the latest version Motorola Assist fixes some “important bugs which makes Assist even more reliable and useful,” but naturally doesn’t get into what’s been fixed.

Before you get too excited, however, there is something of a catch. Assist’s Google Play listing points out that Driving Mode only works on the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini, and Moto X. If you’re rocking any other Motorola handset, it sounds like you’ll be limited to Meeting Mode and Sleeping Mode. Admittedly, Driving Mode is probably the most useful feature of Motorola Assist, but we imagine users will be able to get some mileage out of the other two modes. Are you a Motorola Assist user? If so, how do you like it?
