The Moto G is one of those devices that most of us will probably buy because it’s an interesting device. No it’s not interesting because of some special feature like Active Display or Touchless Control. And no it’s not interesting because of it’s hardware. It’s interesting because it’s actually a pretty decent phone that’s under $200 without a contract. Now we’ve seen plenty of devices with a low price tag off-contract like the Moto G. In fact, that’s all BLU makes. But they haven’t always been the best spec-wise, build-wise, or software-wise. But the Moto G seems to be changing that.
The Moto G has a 4.5-inch 720p display, along with a Snapdragon 400 processor which is a quad-core 1.2GHz variant. It’s also got a 5MP camera and a 1.3MP front facing camera. It’s packing a 2070mAh battery inside, which gives it plenty of battery life. It’s also running on Android 4.3, and it’s nearly stock Android. Motorola also said that it would receive KitKat around January of 2014. And since the Moto X received the KitKat update already (and early), we may see it before January.
Also the Moto G is available in both 8GB and 16GB variants. There is no microSD card slot available though. The 8GB version will run you about $179, while the 16GB version will be around $199. Remember that’s unlocked and without a contract. That’s a pretty sweet deal. However the Moto G will only work on GSM networks like AT&T, T-Mobile and their MVNO networks such as Straight Talk, AiO, Net10, Solavei, etc.
If you’re one of those that just needs a phone that works, and doesn’t need a Snapdragon 800, or a 1080p display, or 64GB of storage, you’re going to want to check out the Moto G. Also it will be coming to Verizon prepaid in January. So if you’re on Verizon, be on the look out for that come 2014.
