Official Android 4.4 Update Now Available for Nexus 7 2012 – Grouper – WiFi Edition

Just last night, Google announced on Google+ that Android 4.4 – KitKat is making it’s way out to their WiFi tablets. Which included the Nexus 10, Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi, and Nexus 7 (2012) WiFi. Earlier this morning, we saw the update made available for the Nexus 7 (2013), and now for those with the original Nexus 7 (the Grouper) we now have the update available for you. Since none of us really want to wait for the OTA to be made available. We’ve got the download down below for you to check out.

If you want to flash this OTA zip, you’ll need to use the adb sideload command through adb using the Android SDK. However, if you are stock but rooted, you should be able to flash the update via your custom recovery. However that doesn’t work 100% of the time.

The OTA update is about 185MB in size, which should be the same size as waiting for the update over the air. It’s a semi big update, but not too large. You’ll probably find that the update will take a bit to install and reboot. You may also notice that the UI does not look the same as the Nexus 5’s UI. There have been reports that Google is keeping the launcher on the Nexus 5, on the Nexus 5 to see how everyone likes or dislikes it. I actually like the new launcher on the Nexus 5, especially with the translucent navigation bar and status bar. I’m sure we’ll start seeing more custom ROMs for the original Nexus 7 that are more stable now. Especially since they have code set for Grouper, instead of just porting over the Nexus 5 build to the Nexus 7, like many did for the Nexus 4.

How many of you are going to download and sideload this update? Let us know in the comments down below.
