We’ve been hearing about another larger Samsung device for a couple of weeks and now, Samsung has come clean and announced their latest device, the Galaxy Grand 2. You might remember the original Galaxy Grand, that delivered a fairly large display size for those not looking to break the bank, spending the extra to get their hands around a Galaxy Note. Now, Samsung is back with their second Galaxy Grand and with its 5.25-inch 1280 x 720 display, it’s certainly a sizable device. Internally, there’s not too much to write home about but, it’s more than adequate for the everyday sort of stuff, which seems to be what Samsung is aiming for with the Grand 2.
For the most part, you’re looking at yet another Samsung device, with Android 4.3 with TouchWiz running on top, bringing many of the features of the Galaxy S4 down (or up?) to this device. With 1.5GB of RAM and a 1.2 Ghz Quad-Core CPU, we’re probably looking at performance similar to the Galaxy Mega devices, which is perfectly reasonable. You can take a look at the full specs below:
Of particular interest is the 2,600 mAh battery that Samsung says will get you 10 hours of video playback or 17 hours of talk time. Of course, no matter how good the specs are, Samsung has the Moto G to contend with and its stellar price tag, as well as similar specs. Pricing is going to be key for the Galaxy Grand 2, it’s clearly got some decent specs for a mid-range device but, we’re not sure Samsung can charge much more than $200 unlocked for this, especially considering the Moto G costs just $179 for the same amount of storage at 8GB. However, the Grand 2 does feature a microSD card slot, allowing for more storage to be placed inside.
Overall though, the Galaxy Grand 2 is probably not aimed at the US market and instead is more geared towards developing markets and Europe. Larger devices are becoming more and more popular all the time and there’s no doubt a device like, available on a budget will be popular.
