We’re certainly expecting a fair amount of device reveals at MWC 2014 – which is set to take place in late January – and the folks at SamMobile have a new rumored reveal to add to the ever-growing list. According to anonymous sources, Samsung is apparently planning to reveal the Galaxy Grand Lite at the show. It may not be the most glamorous phone on the block, but obviously there’s incentive for Samsung to release yet another Galaxy Grand if the company is even considering such an announcement.
Provided this rumor is actually true, the Galaxy Grand Lite would be joining the already existing Galaxy Grand and Galaxy Grand 2. The Galaxy Grand line of devices has always fallen in the low-to-mid range as far as specifications are concerned, and the Galaxy Grand Lite appears to be no different. The phone is rumored to come equipped with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, a 2100mAh battery, 8GB of internal storage (expandable through the included microSD slot), and 1GB of RAM. We’re also hearing that the Galaxy Grand Lite will be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, but that could very well change by the time an official announcement takes place.
Not bad, but those specs aren’t necessarily worth writing home about. The same is true for the 5-inch WVGA screen. Quite frankly, thinking of a 5-inch screen displaying WVGA resolution gives us a headache, but the main selling point of the line has never really been cosmetic. Instead, it has always seemed like consumers have cared more about the Galaxy Grand’s dual-SIM capabilities. Such phones are popular in Asia, and even though there hasn’t been any confirmation that the Galaxy Grand Lite will come with a dual-SIM slot, it seems relatively safe to assume that it will.
According to SamMobile’s sources, the Galaxy Grand Lite will be available in midnight black, lime green, and orange, and should go on sale sometime in early February 2014. Whether or not that’s actually the case is yet to be seen, but considering the success of the first two Galaxy Grands, we certainly wouldn’t put such a reveal past Samsung. Of course, taking rumors as gospel truth is rarely a good idea, so you may want to remain skeptical until we’ve got more solid evidence to go on. In the meantime, we’ll be keeping an ear to the ground for additional information, so stay tuned.
