Yesterday, we told you that bamboo had been added to the Moto Maker options for the Moto X. This was something a lot of folks had been looking forward to for a long time, but the one drawback was that Moto X handsets with bamboo backs were facing delayed shipping – we assume because the option was proving to be very popular. Those who ordered a bamboo Moto X were told that their phone wouldn’t ship until we had made it into the new year, and while it isn’t exactly the end of the world, it was still disappointing for those who have been waiting for bamboo to become available.
However, today there’s more good news to get excited about. Android Central has received an email from Motorola stating that their bamboo Moto X will be shipping out earlier than expected. Specifically, Motorola says that consumers will receive their bamboo Moto X devices on or before December 27, so if you’ve already ordered one, delivery may only be about a week off. Of course, it would be foolish to say that everyone who placed an order will be getting theirs before that date, but it looks like there’s a major push from Motorola to get these handsets out the door and into the hands of customers quickly.
It’s hard to say what exactly has consumers so excited about the bamboo option for the Moto X, and asking any group will certainly net you a variety of answers. Some think the bamboo looks great, while others may tell you that a wood back to their phone is preferred over fragile glass or cheap-feeling plastic. Personally, I’m not a big fan of the wood look, but if we’re talking about the benefits of a wood back over glass or plastic, you’ve got my full attention. Whatever the reason, these bamboo backs are causing quite a commotion, so it’s good to hear that buyers will have their handsets soon.
Bamboo is supposedly the first in a range of wood covers that will be appearing in Moto Maker before long. At the moment, the only wood backing that’s available is bamboo, but we expect more options to come online sooner or later. Just a word of warning, though: that bamboo back is going to cost a $100 premium, so if you want one, be prepared to shell out some extra cash. Did any of you order a bamboo Moto X when they were made available yesterday? If so, check your email and let us know if you’ll be getting yours by December 27.
