The Christmas Holiday Season is almost upon us and it is no wonder that Google has been getting into the holiday spirit. For most of this month, Google has been adding Easter eggs into most of its service offerings including Google Search and its innovative sibling – Google Now.
Just last week Google had turned all Android smartphones into virtual snow globes – letting users shake their phone to see snow fall on photos uploaded on their social network Google Plus (Google+). This week Google is back to get us in the holiday spirit by helping us with Christmas Carols. This new Easter egg has arrived on Google Now which helps users remember and sing along to their favorite Christmas Carols.
Just grab your phone, open Google Search, tap the microphone and say “Let’s Go Caroling”. If you own a Motorola Moto X with the active listening feature switched on, simply say “Ok, Google Now, let’s go caroling”; which you can also say from the home screen on the LG Nexus 5. The search query will return a small card, giving the option of five carols – which includes the all-time favorite “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls” along with “We wish you a Merry Christmas”, “O Christmas Tree” and “Up on the House Top”.
Once you select the carol you wish to listen to and karaoke along – the Easter Egg provides a start, stop and replay button along with carol lyrics to help your memory. Going back and selecting a different carol is also pretty easy.
It seems that Google takes its holiday spirit a lot more seriously than most, as is evidenced by the number of Easter eggs coming up from them. In a recent update to Google Plus’ Auto Awesome effects feature, any photos you put up with Christmas decorations on Google Plus will be converted to animated GIFs with sparkling decoration lights. The Caroling Easter egg is confirmed to work on all Android and iOS phones and tablets.
