With all the buzz around Huawei lately about pulling out of the US cell phone market, it seems just a little ironic that we should see such reports of a phone Huawei is calling the “Honor” 4 get a potential unveiling soon. You have to appreciate the irony in the timing and the phones name considering the allegations against Huawei, whether they’re true or not.
The potential unveiling may take place sometime next week according to what looks like an invitation to a special event that Huawei will be holding. The event is scheduled for December 16th, so we’ll be finding out soon whether or not this device will be announced. The Honor 4 or Glory 4 as its called in some markets is going to be powered by a MediaTek true octa-core MT65492 chip. Unlike Samsung’s octa-core chip(the exynos 5) that only runs up to four cores at once, the MT65492 can simultaneously run all 8 cores at once. That should prove to be some major computing power inside the handset.
Rumors surrounding the Honor 4/Glory4 suggest that it will have a 5.5 inch display that carries a resolution of 720×1280. That’s not the best resolution for a screen this size, but it’s just a rumor so far so we’ll just have to wait and see if they prove to be true. The processor is supposedly going to be clocked at 1.7GHz, and comes along with 2GB of ram to help power anything that needs more performance capabilities. On the storage side of things, the Honor 4 is supposedly coming with 32GB of storage space, which should be plenty for most people. This puts the storage on par with tablets like the nexus 7 and other phones like the nexus 5.
The front and rear facing cameras are actually sounding pretty nice, as the rear camera will be 13MP and the front camera will be 5MP. Thats quite a bit better than most front facing cameras. The sad part here is that its supposedly going to have 4.2.2 pre installed. So no kit kat for Honor 4 users apparently. At least not right away.
December 16th is approaching quickly, so we’ll see what that date holds in terms of more knowledge about the phone. Perhaps Huawei will tell the world what the phone will cost and who will be able to purchase it.
