Ever since Motorola announced the Moto X with Moto Maker, allowing the user to individualize his Moto X with different colored backs, fronts, trim, and buttons etc., we have been waiting for the coveted real wooden backs to be made available. Customers seem willing and anxious to spend the extra $50 for the real wood back on their Moto X, and who can blame them – they are downright beautiful.
We just about gave up on ever being able to purchase the extra cost wooden backs, but then were reassured several times from @evleaks that the wooden backs were indeed still in the Moto X’s future. Sinead Carew, of Reuters, also tweeted at the end of November that Motorola missed Thanksgiving, with the wooden backs, but that they would make it in time for Christmas purchasing – and if that is the case, then they better come out soon.
To make it even more official, on Motorola Mobility’s Google+ Page, they posted the above item: “Put this DIY project on hold. Trust us.” This definitely is an official endorsement from Motorola as this Google+ posting is directly from them. Still no definite date is given, but we wanted to let you know that Motorola seems to be standing by their word that a wooden back will be available. We can only hope that this means it could start as soon as this Monday, or certainly this week, for Christmas delivery.
Feedback from potential customers are saying that they held off purchasing the Moto X because they were waiting for the wooden back option. Now that it will be available I wonder how many will still purchase the Moto X or have they moved on to other models. The Moto X is a phone that surprised everybody with its midrange specifications, but smooth, fast, and optimized performance. The real techno geeks that must have the latest and greatest specs, immediately counted it out, however, our own editor, Alex, that did a full review was blown away by its performance and still calls it one of his favorites phones for 2013…and built in the USA, is a nice factor, as well.
