We know that 2014 is going to be the year that Samsung really ups the ante when it comes to their Android tablets, which in Samsung-land means a whole lot of different screen sizes. We’ve already seen a slight variation on the regular, 7 and 10-inch tablets this year with the Galaxy Tab 8 and the Galaxy Note 8.0. Soon though, it looks like Samsung will be going head-to-head with LG’s G Pad 8.3 with their very own 8.4-inch tablet. As PhoneArena is reporting, a Galaxy Tab Pro with the model number of SM-T320 has just recently passed through the FCC and is pictured above. While the FCC filing doesn’t reveal its size, a shipping manifest from Indian agency Zauba does.
The images from the FCC filing seem to line up with a device sporting such a display, as the headphone socket looks pretty alone up top with a whole lot of room either side of it. As we’ve come to expect these days, this tablet from Samsung will be arriving with Bluetooth 4.0 LE as well as WiFi 802.1 a/b/g/n/ac, other than that there’s no word on a 3G/LTE release of the tablet but the “Pro” moniker suggests to us that there’s going to be more than one version of this guy hitting shelves.
While the device might be passing through the halls of the FCC now, it’s probably not going to see an official unveiling from Samsung until February next year, which has typically been their time of year to announce fresh tablets and of course, we’ll be seeing more of these come Mobile World Congress 2014. So far, it’s looking very much like Samsung is about to get very serious with Android tablets however, more screen sizes and more options might not be the way to go. Samsung tried that when Android tablets were relatively new to the market with 7, 7.7, 8.9, and 10.1-inch models all within a short time period of each other. Pricing is probably going to be more important next year as we’ve already seen how successful tablets can be if they get the balance right between pricing and features.
