The rumor mill has been working overtime this holiday season. We had received rumors earlier about a Samsung device – the Samsung Hit to be specific – which could be on the same lines as the ASUS Padfone; which would allow a mobile phone to dock into and power up a tablet device. In fresh rumors from the Samsung camp, more speculations come up for a Samsung device, so far identified only by its model number – SM-G900S; which could either be Samsung’s answer to the ASUS Padfone or – if the model number details are to be believed – could be a special version Samsung Galaxy S5 for the Korean SK Telecom.
The Samsung SM-G900S has recently passed through the GFX Benchmark website, which revealed its product ID or product name – klteskt. A recent tweet from evleaks (a famous tipster) tipped the code name for the Samsung Galaxy S5 to be ‘K’. Looking at the product name from the GFX Benchmark site, we see ‘K’ to be prominently featured. Going by this logic, we have ‘k’ – for the Samsung Galaxy S5, whereas the ‘lte’ definitely refers to LTE connectivity while the ‘skt’ is expected to refer to SK Telecom, the South Korean telecom major.
The benchmark also listed some tantalizing features for the SM-G900S including a 2560 x 1440 (2K display) pixels display resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.5 GHz, an Adreno 330 GPU and pre-loaded with Android 4.4 Kit Kat. The graphics performance of the device is nothing short of stellar, however since this is a prototype, we can expect the processor to be upgraded to a 64 bit Exynos, as the Snapdragon 800 cannot be considered to be future-proof. Also since Qualcomm has already announced the faster Snapdragon 805 processor (to be launched early next year), it needs to be seen whether Samsung prefers its own processor over those of Qualcomm or we get two versions of the Samsung Galaxy S5. So now we have two working theories regarding the Samsung SM-G900S, firstly it could be a mobile-tablet combo device following in the footsteps of the ASUS Padfone or it could be a device specific for the requirements of Samsung’s backyard neighbor SK Telecom. Since the benchmark results have mysteriously disappeared from the GFX website, we have the screenshots at the end of this post.
