Archos has just announced a new line up of three tablets, in what will be called the Neon series. The Archos 9-0 Neon, 10-1 Neon, and 9-7 Neon are the three tablets that Archos will release in the future. All three tablets are appropriately named after their screen sizes, and all three tablets are powered by Android Jelly Bean 4.2, and house quad-core processors, although they don’t all have the same processor. Interestingly enough, The neon 9-7 has a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, with a quad-core Mali 400 GPU, while the other two tablets house a 1.4GHz quad-core with an unnamed quad-core GPU. Why Archosopted to put the 1.6 in the middle sized tablet is beyond us, but they must have a reason for doing so. All three tablets will come with the same amount of storage space, which sits at 8GB of internal storage, and all three tablets have 1GB of RAM. It also looks like the entire Neon series will allow for up to 64GB of additional storage via the microSD slot. So if 8GB isn’t enough for you,(which is most people these days) you can always add more space.
In the camera department, the 9-7 once again seems to get some special treatment, in that it gets a .3MP front facing camera for video chat, and then a 2MP rear facing camera for lower resolution photos. The other two tablets in the Neon series only have front facing cameras, or front webcams as Archos is referring to them. Just based off of some of the differences between the 9-7 series Neon and the other two, it seems to us that the Neon9-7 is the most high end out of the lot, although on an overall scale they all fall into the low end category. The entire Neon series lineup of tablets will have a full suite of Google’s core apps, and these are normal Android tablets that aren’t running any sort of split or forked version of the Android software so the Play Store is present as well, which means you can download mostly any app that you see fit so long as you take into account some app incompatibility of course. Archos has yet to mention when the Neon series of tablets will go on sale, and they haven’t yet mentioned any sort of pricing on the tablets either. If you’re interested in one of these, as soon as we know what the costs and availability dates are you can be sure we’ll have the info here.
