Chevrolet and AT&T Announce 4G LTE Equipped Cars Coming this Year

We already know that Android is headed to Cars. In fact, that’s NVIDIA”s next big push. We also heard this morning that Android would be hitting the dashboards in cars in the upcoming years. How about a smart dashboard? Oh wait, you need data right? Well that’s where AT&T comes in. At CES, today, AT&T an Chevy announced that a few of their 2015 car models will have LTE connectivity for all your data needs.

If you’re looking at a 2015 Chevy Corvette, Impala, Malibu or Volt, you will be one of the first to get 4G LTE in your car. Chevy is bringing this new technology under the OnStar name. OnStar with 4G LTE will be eventually rolled out to five other cars and will allow people to use a fully capable WiFi hotspot in their car. This connection will allow your dashboard center to feature apps and this LTE can keep them update and useful on your ride around town or across the country.

As expected, this does not come for free. AT&T will be allowing existing customers to add their vehicle to your data plan as another line that will use data from your pool of data. Similar to adding a tablet for other Internet device to your account. However, Non-AT&T customers will be able to purchase a data package or the car, but prices for this will be announced later this year when the feature is closer to launching. We probably won’t see anymore about this until the end of the summer or later on. But it’s still nice to have 4G LTE in your car, aside from on your phone or tablet. It’d definitely be nice for when you’re on a road trip, theoretically you could stream music from Pandora, Google Play Music and other streaming services.

How many of you are excited to have 4G LTE from AT&T in your new 2015 Chevy car? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
