Appropriately named, the Geeksphone Revolution, is the first smartphone device released that will run two operating systems. Spotted on the internet earlier this month, we knew little about the device except for the fact that it would run two operating systems and dual-boot. Almost a year ago, Geeksphone had released their Firefox OS on the Keon and the Peak, but these were launched as developer devices and the Revolution will be aimed at the mass market.
While it is true that you will be able to run Android, although no version is given, and another Operating System, do not get your hopes set on Windows or iOS. The website states it as follows:
The Revolution is not only more powerful than most, but also a first-of-its-kind. Geeksphone MultiOS technology allows you to choose your operating system. Starting with Google® Androidâ„¢ operating system, you can seamlessly switch to Boot2Gecko by Mozilla, or any other community-supported flavor of an OS. You choose, and we will keep you updated thanks to our 1-click OTA system.
So for now, we get an unidentified Android OS and the Boot2Gecko by Mozilla as the other OS – because I do not know any other “community-supported flavor of an OS.” This could limited the devices appeal by being so vague – you would at least think they would know what Android version they were putting on their device.
The specifications, as set forth on Geeksphone’s website, tell us it will come with a 4.7-inch IPS LCD Display, but they do not share the resolution. The processor will be an Intel Atom, dual-core processor, Z2560, clocked at 1.6GHz. It will have 1GB RAM and 4GB of internal storage with microSD support up to 32GB. The camera will be 8MP with LED Flash and include a 2MP front-facing camera. The battery will have 2,000mAh of power. Connectivity will be HSPA/WCDMA and GSM/EDGE, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, and Wi-Fi. No pricing or availability was given, and certainly pricing would have a lot to do with sales of the device.
