HTC Already Working On Mid-Range 2014 Device? Leaked Image Says 'Yes'

HTC is working on their flagship device for 2014, codenamed HTC M8. The M8 is expected to be a new member of the HTC One family, and has had cases leaked, back panels leaked, and some specs leaked as well. Now we are seeing a possible mid-range device pop up in China, an expected addition to the Desire line of devices from HTC. HTC has had a rough year in 2013, but in an attempt to turn things around, the company has made some drastic changes. One of the biggest changes made involved CEO Peter Chou, and Chairwoman Cher Wang. Chou decided he would step back from the CEO title and responsibilities, and hand those over to Wang. After those changes were made, Wang made announcements about where the company would be focusing their time and energy in order to bring the company back into the green. One such area where HTC said they needed to focus, is in the mid-range device market.

Wang and the company, feel that if they improve their footing in the mid-range to low-end device market, they will be able to more easily regain ground in other areas. So, to think that company is already working on a mid-range device isn’t far fetched. The flagship device of the year, the M8, is rumored to be released sometime in March. That said, they should be just about ready to turn focus on the next device of the year for the mid-range level.

The reports from China, along with the image, show a thin red device with a speculated 5-inch display. The rumors already started with the leaked image revolve around the processor, price and release date. According to the report, the new Desire device could be released in March or April as well, which is very close to the release date of the HTC M8. The price range, if this is a mid-range device, is around 2000 Yuan, or $330. Also speculated is the processor, though a number was not released, it is expected to have a Snapdragon inside. More than likely an 800 than an 805, since this is due to be a mid-range device. We recently saw new code names released in Indonesia, the M8x and the D310w. If that is the device we are now seeing, the D310w, than rumors circulating that device are similar to what we see above, with the addition of 512MB of RAM. Names and code names aside, this could be the year to watch HTC, if only because they are fighting harder than ever to make a comeback. What are your thoughts on this year for HTC, do you think they stand a chance? Where do you think they need to focus in order to regain their place in the mobile device markets?
