On Friday, Motorola updated their DROID Zap app which is available for any NFC-enabled device, however it’s pretty much useless unless you know someone with a DROID Maxx, DROID Mini, or DROID Ultra on Verizon. Because those are the only devices that can send pictures to others. It’s rather strange, but it is an exclusive feature to Verizon’s DROID devices.
Motorola launched the app back in August when the DROID’s went on sale. It was an alright app, nothing too exciting about it. But today, Motorola has given it a new redesign, and it looks really nice now. The app is now full of the Card UI, along with the same blacks and reds you’d expect from an app with the name “DROID” in it. It’s complete with the Hamburger slide-out menu on the left side. Which I’m a big fan of.
The DROID Zap app allows DROID users to share files with people within 300 feet of them. Which all they need to do is swipe up with two fingers on the picture in the gallery and it’ll be uploaded to the cloud, so people in the area can search for the picture and download it. Of course, you can add your own PIN to the picture as well. Making it a bit more secure. But like we said above, only DROID users can send files, but anyone with the DROID Zap app can receive them.
It’s kind of disappointing that this is still a DROID-only feature, but then again, who really needs it? We’ve got other ways of sharing photos with people in the area, like NFC. Which doesn’t involve installing an app. But anywho, for those with a DROID or that use DROID Zap with friends, you’re going to love the new design in this update. It definitely looks nice to me. And still has that DROID-feel.
