Back at CES earlier this month. Sony showed off a couple of new phones. There was the Xperia Z1s for T-Mobile and then the Xperia Z1 Compact. Which is basically the Xperia Z1f or the Z1 Mini in Japan. It’s a pretty nice “mini” phone. It’s one of the only phones out there that shares the same specs as well as name as its big brother. With other “mini’s” like the HTC One Mini or the Galaxy S4 Mini, you’ll find that the specs just aren’t there like they are on their big brothers, the HTC One and Galaxy S4. For instance the HTC One Mini has a 720p display, Snapdragon 400, and 1GB of RAM. Which pretty much makes it a mid-range device. However the Xperia Z1 Compact is still a high-end phone with a smaller screen.
The Xperia Z1 Compact features a 4.3-inch 720p display, with a 2300mAh battery and that’s really the only difference from the Xperia Z1. Otherwise it sports 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, 20.7MP camera on the back, with a 2MP front-facing shooter. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and Android 4.3 – Jelly Bean on board. I’d venture to say that this is probably the best “mini” smartphone out there right now. However, it’s not cheap at all.
O2 just launched the Xperia Z1 Compact today, and they are selling it for £479.99. Whenconverted to USD, that’s about $790. That’s quite expensive for a “mini” phone. Normally those are cheaper. However, on contract pricing can have you leaving the O2 store with a free phone with one of O2’s Refresh tariffs that start at just £37 a month. In the past, O2 has left out the charger in the device boxes to save on costs. And they’ve done it again with the Xperia Z1 Compact. So make sure you have an adapter at home, or you’ll need to pick one up as well. However, since it does use microUSB, any charger from your previous phone or tablet should work just fine.
