Lat year, we didn’t see the arrival of a new model Nexus 10 that we all thought we were going to see. While there’s no law that says devices need to be released on a yearly basis, it did send mixed signals from Google. After all, if they were prepared to pour effort into the Nexus 7 but not the Nexus 10, then what does that say about 10-inch Android tablets overall? We’ve heard all sorts of rumors when it comes to a new Nexus 10, that ASUS is the manufacturer behind this mysterious new model, as well as the fact that this year’s model could be based off of the Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition. However, none of these rumors came true, as can often be the case, and we were left with a Nexus 10 shaped hole throughout 2013. Which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, as the 2012 Nexus 10 still holds its own even today however, with yearly releases from Apple and the iPad, can Google really afford to delay such a launch by so much?
Enter DigiTimes and yet another rumor that a Nexus 10 is in fact on its way to market and that it could be heading to CES 2014. The article from DigiTimes mentions other manufacturers but both Google and Samsung are mentioned, alongside ASUS and Lenovo. That might not sound extraordinary but, when you think that Google has already announced the new Nexus 7 and the Nexus 8 turned out to be the LG G Pad Google Play Edition, what other tablet could Google be announcing? It’s not as if Google is a total stranger to CES, either. Many of you will remember that CES 2011 was effectively the birth of Android tablets, with Android 3.0 Honeycomb being announced alongside the Motorola Xoom.
Are we likely to see a Nexus 10 next week at CES? Probably not but, is it entirely impossible? This is CES, anything can happen and as we said above, Google have been here before and with so many other Android tablets being announced, a showing from the creator of Android wouldn’t be a bad move at all.
