The 12.2″ Galaxy Note tablet from Samsung has been rumored for almost a year, but this year we may finally see it, and soon, too. What we don’t know so far, though, is any of its specs. According to a new rumor, the 12.2″ Galaxy Note Pro will arrive with a Snapdragon 800 and 3GB of RAM, which are the same specs the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition has.
It should also have the same 2560—1600 resolution, although on a larger screen, so slightly fewer PPI, but I doubt the difference will be very noticeable. However, I’m sure Samsung will try to push the resolution to 4k on its future tablets (and even phones) in the coming years, so even larger than 10″ tablets can have 300+ PPI resolutions.
The Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 will also come with an 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front camera, Wi-fi 802.11ac, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, and there should be LTE-enabled versions, too. Since it’s launching a few months after KitKat was released, it will also come with Android 4.4.2 by default, and Samsung’s own TouchWiz on top of it.
I doubt it’s going to come with 64GB of storage by default, as I’m expecting OEMs to have in their high-end flagships this year, but anything less than 32GB would be unacceptable at this point, for a product that will most likely cost $500, or even $600 for its starting price (going by the initial price of the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition).
OEMs should be able to put 64GB of storage in their high-end devices by default, and 128GB for an extra $100, considering it should cost them about as much as it cost to put 16GB and 32GB inside devices back in 2010, but they’ll probably try to squeeze that storage profitability for as long as possible.
Samsung especially, has been looking at ways to increase its profits in the future (not that they suffer in that area, they just want more of it). Outsourcing their low-end devices, making their high-end tablets cost $600 by default, and wanting to release more “premium” versions of the Galaxy S series, are all hints for Samsung’s line of thinking here.
I for one believe a Galaxy Note Pro with a 12.2″ size screen is pretty exciting, especially if they release a Folio-type keyboard accessory for it, to use it as a laptop, but at the same time, I’m also hoping it doesn’t come with an unreasonable price tag.
