T-Mobile's John Legere Talks Sprint Acquisition, But Doesn't Deny It

When T-Mobile’s press conference was coming to a close just a few minutes ago, John Legere had opened it up for Q&A from the press that was in attendance. One of the more interesting questions was about the rumors about Sprint looking to purchase T-Mobile this year. In his response, Legere said “I can tell you that the T-Mo brand, attitude, and identity is here to stay.” However he did not deny that Sprint may acquire magenta this year. But what this does suggest is that the combined company would adopt T-Mobile’s branding instead of Sprint’s. Which we all know, Sprint’s identity is fading fast as T-Mobile is going full-bore on all fronts with Legere at the helm. “What we’re doing in any scenario will prevail” said Legere.

Legere had been blasting Sprint more than AT&T and Verizon through out the press conference today.  “…a pile of spectrum waiting to be turned into a capability,” which sounds lik evidence that an acquisition is strongly being considered.  It’s also a good suggestion that Legere’s team could make good use of the spectrum that it thinks Sprint has failed to capitalize on. Sprint recently launched their Spark network, which is their tri-band LTE network, but it’s only available in a handful of cities right now. T-Mobile’s CTO, Neville Ray blasted Sprint today, as being a commercial non-entity. “They don’t want to sell it to you,” he stated and adding that it’s a “sh*tstorm”.

So there were some hints during their press conference today about a possible Sprint acquisition. And it’s making me feel a bit more comfortable about it happening, although I’d still like to keep four national carriers, as I’m sure everyone else does. But getting rid of Sprint’s current team and bringing in T-Mobile’s John Legere and Co., as well as their Uncarrier branding would be a great deal for a combined company, in my opinion.
