Yahoo Buys Aviate; Plans To Offer A More Connected And Personalized Home Screen Experience

Do you Yahoo!? If you use Aviate, you soon might be. It’s CES day two and Yahoo! has just announced that it has successfully acquired Aviate, one of the newer custom home screen experiences offered to Android users. Of all the different Home Screen launchers out there, Aviate has quickly become one of the most popular due to its “smart home screen experience”, giving users useful and relevant information based on where they are. It makes sense that a company like Yahoo! would acquire Aviate, as they have a common goal in offering users a simple and intelligent mobile experience that is enjoyable.

Aviate states that they sold to Yahoo! because they had goals and visions that were aligned with each other. As we become ever more connected in our lives and carry our smartphones with us everywhere we go, we begin to use our smartphones for virtually everything. What Yahoo! saw was that the average person has loads of screens filled with different apps, and that they were constantly swiping from screen to screen searching for the one they need. You can of course take the steps to organize your Home Screen and app drawers any way you like, this is one beautiful feature of Android. This isn’t nearly the most efficient way to access relevant content though, and Yahoo! knows it. They have a vision for providing the simplest and most intelligent user experience possible so that we can go about enjoying life and continue to get things done. Aviate shares this vision.

Our lives are busy, and there’s often an infinite amount of information that we either need or want to take in on any given day. This is the nature of being so connected as we are in today’s society. At least for many of us. Yahoo!, who has made their entire career about providing people with the information they seek, also seeks themselves to provide you with a similar solution to access your apps and other types of information on a daily basis in an innovative new fashion. Yahoo! has been making plenty of updates to their own apps such as Mail, Finance, and Weather, and now they’re moving onto making great things happen with Aviate. The founders of Aviate want to make sure that current users however, understand that the experience they currently have with the Home Screen replacement, “isn’t going anywhere”. You can find more information at the announcement page from Yahoo!, as well as find the entire statement from the Aviate team. Aviate is still in a private beta stage, however to celebrate the acquisition by Yahoo!, Aviate and Yahoo! are allowing access to the first 25,000 people to enter the code “YAHOO” upon opening the app. If you hurry, you might be able to get in before it’s too late.
