Alcatel Announce OneTouch Pop Fit Smartphone; Truly is "Mini" at 2.8-inches

When we see manufacturers such as Samsung and LG releasing “Mini” version of their other devices, it often makes us question how mini a “mini” smartphone is these days. Well, Alcatel has thrown a spanner in the works today with the announcement of their OneTouch Pop Fit smartphone. Available in a range of colors, the Pop Fit is positively diddy at just 2.8-inches. In fact, the vibe that Alcatel is going for here is more of a fun, vibrant and for those of a more active nature. Unsurprisingly, the Pop Fit isn’t winning any awards for specs.

With a 2.8-inch 320 x 240 display resolution, a dual-core 1 Ghz CPU and a 2-megapixel camera there really isn’t much to see here. However, this is more of a device for those on the move, and as such it features 32GB of storage, headphones from JBL and an armband all included in the box. More iPod than smartphone then, the Pop Fit is an interesting device, if only because it’s so different. Unlike Alcatel’s other devices they announced earlier on, we can’t see the average smartphone buyer heading out to buy one of these. In a lot of markets though, 3G isn’t even good enough to stream music, so the 32GB of storage will be a nice touch for those wanting to run to some tunes or use something at the gym without feeling disconnected as this is still a phone.

Alcatel’s OneTouch Pop Fit comes in at just 78g and will be available in black, turquoise, yellow, pink and red. There’s no word yet on an international release or indeed any sort of release date, but these details should trickle out as we get further into the week that is Mobile World Congress 2014. The event hasn’t even opened its doors yet and we’ve already seen Samsung announce the Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear 2 Neo and there’s lots more ahead.
