HTC Evo 4G LTE Owners are finally getting their chance to update their devices to Jelly bean 4.3, as was promised back in October of last year. HTC has also outlined information about regarding the 4.4 update to T-Mobile and At&t versions of the HTC One. HTC execs said that the update for 4.3 on the Evo 4G LTE would be landing for users before the end of 2013, and sadly that didn’t happen but a little redemption is on the way for the Taiwanese manufacturer as they have just dropped the update file for users to download and update their devices. We know it’s not quite as easy as just sitting back and waiting for it to be pushed to your device, but at least HTC is making good on their promise.
Unlike regular OTA updates, this update file(which you have to download yourself) will wipe your device and all existing data within. If you care about any of the files stored on your devices main storage or have important data that you want to keep, make sure you do a solid backup of anything that you want to keep from losing during this update process. It’s an extra step, but an extra step that’s well worth it to make sure your files are safe. The reason that the update won’t be OTA is because the partition size limit is too small on the Evo 4G LTE for it to work. At least it’s available though.
If you want to grab the update for yourself you can do so by heading over to Martin Fitcher’s Twitter account where he posted the link in a tweet about the update. If you navigate over there you’ll find the link to the update file, and once you click it the update will immediately begin downloading to your computer or where ever else you begin the download from. Make sure you have some space handy if you’re downloading the file from your phone itself, because the download file is a whopping 826MB in size. Once you flash the file the instructions within the RUU file should be pretty easy to follow. Not only will users be getting the update to Android 4.3 with this RUU, but Sense 5 comes along with it so you’ll get a nice little updated UI experience as well. If there are any Evo 4G LTE users out there still on older software, the file is live and ready to go.
