There are still a lot of people waiting to get their devices updated to the latest Android OS version, Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Many of the manufacturers have promised rollouts of the update in Q1 of this year, with some saying the updates will be ready Sometime towards the middle or the end of Q2. As far as the HTC One goes, we’ve heard plenty about HTC being one of the first manufacturers to get things ready for their flagship device to be on Kit Kat early on in 2014. At least the GPE edition has the update for now, but it looks like Verizon’s model of the HTC One could soon have it as well. While most variations of the One have been having Kit Kat tested, Verizon included, Verizon’s model seems to be through with testing as the update has been approved for the carrier version.
Sprint has also already released Kit Kat for their version of the HTC One as of last week so it’s not surprising to see Verizon this close behind. Although some of us were skeptical that it would happen this fast, and that they would be the next carrier in line to hit this mark. The carriers have had the update software for around a month now, so perhaps we’ll start to see it rolling out across the board to all models soon. If you’re on Verizon and you own and use an HTC One, be on the lookout for the OTA to hit your device and be sure to check the status bar watching for the notification. You can also check for the software updates by going into settings and tapping on the software updates button under the “about device” section of the settings menu.
The news about the OTA comes from HTC in a tweet, from HTC employee @moversi, stating that the update is ready to go on Verizon’s end. This more than likely makes plenty of people happy, unless you’re one of the users in the Android community who likes to root your phone, in which case you probably already have kit kat on your device via a custom ROM. We’re still waiting for T-Mobile and At&t to update their variations of the HTC One, and hopefully T-Mobile will get theirs out first as John Legere would be more than happy to make some sort of joke on twitter about it, and those are always funny to read. If you’re on Verizon, the update will be rolling out very soon.
