Meizu MWatch Concept Posted by Senior Meizu Manager

Smartwatches are finally here to stay and everybody wants to jump on the bandwagon and offer up their own design and functionality – Meizu is no exception as one of their Senior Managers offers up these concept depictions of what they are calling their MWatch.  Their concept design comes well after the Samsung Galaxy Gear or the Sony Smartwatch 2 are on the market, as well as Peeble, and it makes a rather bold and futuristic statement – more like a wrist ‘band’ than a compete watch with a strap or bracelet that goes completely around the wrist.

The concept gives us dimensions of a fully flexible 2.4-inch, 640 x 480 resolution display with a metal-style bracelet.  Few details are given from the concept, however, it does include a 5MP, autofocus camera, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and support for over 5000 applications – hey, that is what the source claims.

Meizu is an up and coming player in the smartphone industry – they already have over 600 flagship stores in China, and are manufacturing some pretty deceit smartphones.  Meizu made their first appearance at CES this year, where they introduced their MX3 smartphone and stated that they expect to make a major impact in the U.S. during 2014.  They will also be at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) later this month as they make their name known to the world stage.

Meizu started out manufacturing MP3 players and sold them all over the world, and now they hope to do the same with their new line of smartphones.  The company founder, Jack Wong, had enough vision back in 2002 to realize that their future would be in smartphones and proceeded to manufacture their first smartphone, the M8 miniOne, in 2009.  Meizu now has stores all over China and he hopes to continue that growth by expanding into the U.S. market with a high-end device.

Meizu is also smart enough to realize that there is a big future in wearable devices and is working on its MWatch in hopes of competing with Samsung, Sony, LG, Peeble, Google, Apple, and so on, in what is soon to become a crowded market. Sony is already selling their Smartwatch 2 and Samsung has “geared” up its Galaxy Gear 2. It will be interesting to see what Meizu can bring to the table with their MWatch.
