Yesterday we reported that Asus has named a new Padfone in a memo that we thought would be Padfone Infinity Lite, it seems that we were correct in thinking so, as they have just announced the Padfone Infinity Lite powered by a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor today. This new Padfone will come with Jelly Bean 4.2 out of box, so software wise it’s a little behind the times. This wouldn’t have been a problem with ASUS tablets or devices in the past as they used to be pretty quick about their updates. Hopefully those who pick up the Padfone infinity Lite will see an update to Kit Kat not too far in the future. Although the Padfone isn’t what most would consider mainstream for devices, it’s certainly is a nice pair of products for your mobile computing needs. The beauty of it is being able to take the phone part with you when you won’t have room or the need for a larger display. Checking emails and doing a little bit of light browsing, as well as sending messages can all be done from the regular face of the phone. Then, when you really have the need to do things from a larger display you can connect the phone back up to the dock, and see all your stuff on the big tablet display.
The Padfone Infinity Lite is going to be released in Taiwan for around $463 USD, (the price in Taiwan will be 13,990 TWD) but that is just for the phone itself. For the dock to come along with the padfone(which is the reason for getting the Padfone in the first place), it’s an extra $230 USD(7,000 TWD). The Padfone Infinity Lite is supposed to be released sometime in March according to ASUS, but that launch is only for Taiwan and there was no word so far if there will be a launch anywhere else. The specs on the Padfone infinity Lite are actually not too bad considering it’s a Lite version. The phone portion will sport a 5-inch display with 1,080 x 1,920 resolution, and it can snap photos up to 13MP quality with the rear camera. The phone also has 2GB of RAM and has 32GB of storage space for all your files, documents, etc. The 2,400 mAh battery could be a little more impressive, but it should do just fine for the phone. As for the dock, it’ll come with a larger 5,000 mAh battery, and a 10.1-inch display with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution.
